Stewards award Jack Sears Trophy win to Lea Wood
Lea Wood has been awarded the win in the Jack Sears Trophy in Oulton Park’s first race, after the stewards penalised his race-long rival Liam Griffin.
JWT Performance driver Wood had led for the whole race in his Vauxhall Vectra, before a last lap coming together at the hairpin saw Griffin move in front in his Ford Focus.
The Motorbase Performance man was given a one-second post race penalty for gaining an unfair advantage, giving the place back to Wood.
Griffin paid Wood a friendly visit in his garage to hand over his trophy to him.
“We led the whole race, and on the last lap we tried to slow it down a bit, as the tyres were going off. Liam got a bit of a run on me, but I still had enough room to turn in on the hairpin,” said Wood to TouringCarTimes.
“He had a bit of a lunge on the inside, which took us both out onto the grass. I got back up the inside of him over the brow of the hill into the chicane, and he just outbraked himself and cut the corner.
“That was my win really. I feel it is our win, because we led it for the whole time.”
