Double BMW pole position for STCC season opener

BMW claimed both pole positions for the season opener of the Scandinavian Touring Car Championship at Knutstorp. Fredrik Larsson claimed pole for the first race thanks to fastest time in the first Q1 session while team mate Richard Göransson claimed pole for the second race thanks to fastest time in Q3.

Thed Björk was second fastest in the Q3 session for Volvo, 0.160 seconds from Göransson’s record pole time on 57.496 seconds. Larsson made it two BMWs in the top three in third position, 0.299 seconds from his team mate. Volvo Polestar Performance duo Robert Dahlgren claimed positions rounded off the top five in fourth and fifth position, four tenths from the top.

Larsson was on his own in the Q1 session, beating Volvo driver Dahlgren to pole for race two by 0.228 seconds. Göransson claimed position three ahead of the ever-improving Citroën driver Jocke Mangs in fourth. Ohlsson was the final driver in the top five for Volvo.

Björk is going to start sixth for the first race with reigning TTA champion Fredrik Ekblom in seventh position, just as for the second race.

The technical problems for Tomas Engström continued, also including a spin in the final minutes of the Q1 session, forcing out the yellow flags. Dacia’s Mattias Andersson failed to record a lap time due to electrical problems.
