Markus Huggler wins race one at Oschersleben

Swiss driver Markus Huggler won the first race of the 2013 ADAC Procar Series season at Oschersleben, after dramas hit early race leaders Johannes Leidinger and Jens Weimann.

Liqui Moly Team Engstler driver Johannes Leidinger held on the to the lead from pole position and was forced to defend in the early stages from Thate Motorsport’s Jens Weimann, who had launched up to second from fourth on the grid.

The two former champions diced it out throughout the early stages until Leidinger suddenly slowed on lap seven and pulled into the pits to retire with a loss of drive.

This promoted Jens Weimann to a comfortable 11 second lead over Markus Huggler’s BMW, who was now being caught by the second Engstler BMW of Michael Bräutigam and Ardi Van der Hoek’s RSK-Motorsport BMW.

On lap nine, Weimann was forced to serve a drive through penalty which promoted Huggler to the lead with the two chasing BMWs right behind him. A spin for Van der Hoek saw him drop behind Weimann, leaving a two car battle for the win, but Huggler was able to hold on to win the first race by just under half a second.

In the S1600 class the battle was tight between ETH Tuning Peugeot driver Guido Thierfelder and Glatzel Racing Ford driver Ralf Glatzel in the early stages, with the lead swapping three times before a penalty for Thierfelder saw the victory for Glatzel made easy.

The second race starts at 15:35 CET with the grid decided as race one’s result.
