Ex-F1 man Dieter Gass appointed ‘Head of DTM’ at Audi
Dieter Gass has been appointed ‘Head of DTM’ in an organizational restructure at Audi Sport.
Gass started his motorsport career with Audi in 1994 as a technician, but spent ten years from 2001 with the Toyota and Lotus Formula 1 teams as an engineer before returning to Ingolstadt in January 2012 as ‘Head of Racing Commitments’.
Gass’ assumes his new role with immediate effect and will see him take responsibility for Audi’s DTM programme and its four teams.
The decision was made based a difficult 2012 DTM season for the Ingolstadt manufacturer, in which it struggled to adapts its new RS5 DTM to the new regulations and finished the season with just two wins courtesy of Team Rosberg’s Edoardo Mortara.
“With the new structure at Audi Sport, we react to the growing demands and the increasingly tough competition in the DTM,” said Wolfgang Dürheimer, Board Member for Technical Development at AUDI AG. “This forward-looking arrangement will be the base for future motorsport projects.”
Audi’s Motorsport Boss, Dr. Wolfgang Ullrich, believes Gass’ experience in motorsport, as well as his role with the team last season makes him the ideal candidate to push the team forward as it seeks to make up for its difficult 2012 season.
“Dieter Gass was a logical choice for the new position owing to the extent of his experience.”
