Tom Boardman out of weekend after heavy crash (updated)

Tom Boardman will take no further part in this weekend’s race at Morocco after a heavy crash in the warm-up session.

The British driver speared on at Turn 7 with an apparent brake failure. Boardman was able to turn and avoid running into the back of Alex MacDowall’s bamboo Chevrolet, but launched over the kerbs into the wall, sustaining major front-end damage to his SEAT León WTCC.

The 29-year-old was taken to the medical centre for checks and has now been transferred to the local hospital. He’s reported as OK and just suffering the after-effects from the crash and seat-belt trauma.

UPDATE: Boardman has now returned the track and is uninjured, minor strain from the seat-belts pulling back during the high-G impact. The car is viewed as repairable, with all of the damage to the front of the car.

The cause of the incident was the front brakes failing into the corner.
