Jordan takes independents’ lead after strong Brands Hatch
Eurotech Racing’s Andrew Jordan was happy with his weekend’s work at Brands Hatch after leaving the Kent circuit with the lead in the independents’ championship.
But after running at the sharp end all weekend in his Honda Civic, Jordan said he would have been even happier to lead the overall standings.
Pole position in Saturday’s snow-affected qualifying was followed up by a pair of second places in races one and two, and sixth position in the last race.
The first race included a last-gasp attempt to pass Jason Plato’s Triple Eight MG at Clearways, which saw both drivers briefly end up in the gravel, before rejoining and finishing in the same positions.
Speaking to TouringCarTimes, Jordan said: “It has been a good day to kickstart the championship. We did what we could. I went for the move at the end of race one, which didn’t pay off. I misjudged that.
“But we had good pace throughout. All round it was a good consistent day. Apart from race three, we were the next quickest to Plato, which was good.
“If we have a weekend like we have here every weekend, we’d win the championship. But it will be very hard. We are just focusing on ourselves and seeing where we can improve.”
As well as leading the independents’ standings, Jordan is also second in the overall championship.
He said: “I would have liked to have been leading! But that is a reasonable day’s work. I can go home quite happy.”
Donington Park is up next over the weekend of April 19 and 20, an event Jordan is looking forward to. “It’s my home circuit and I love driving there,” he said.
