Still hope for Volkswagen in 2013 STCC
STCC Volkswagen team manager Tommy Kristoffersson of Kristoffersson Motorsport, KMS, is still hopeful to make it to the 2013 grid, despite time running thin.
“We are working hard for that and we are trying to find ways with the Swedish importer,” said Kristoffersson to VF.se.
Head of Volkswagen Motorsport, Jost Capito, has stated that the German manufacturer will most likely not be officially represented in the 2013 STCC.
Our philosophy is not to take part in motorsport where we cannot use some parts from Volkswagen. But it is good that the discussion [of introducing the FIA world engine] is going, the engine regulations must be changed. If we can use our own technology, then we would for sure consider to take part, said Capito.
TouringCarTimes understands that KMS most likely will be on the grid this year, but with a question mark on how many cars and in which way the team will be represent Volkswagen Sweden.
So far we have not taken any steps back during this process and I am hopeful that we are going to find a solution. We are getting close to the final decision, said Kristoffersson.
Reigning STCC champion Johan Kristoffersson is set to continue for the team in the Swedish championship.
We would like for him to take part in STCC and combine it with racing abroad, there are many alternatives for us there now. But we can’t give any answers as we do not know how STCC will turn out for us, it is a bit of a Catch-22 at the moment, said Kristoffersson.
