Gordon Shedden voted best BTCC driver of 2012

Gordon Shedden has been voted as British Touring Car Championship driver of the season for 2012 by the readers of TouringCarTimes.

After taking his maiden championship title, the 33-year-old Scotsman polled 38 per cent of the votes, comfortably beating Jason Plato, who took 13 per cent, and Mat Jackson, with 12 per cent.

Fourth was Dave Newsham with eight per cent, and fifth Rob Austin, with six per cent.

It marks a double for the Honda Yuasa Racing Team in the awards, as their Honda Civic won the title of best car of the 2012 season.

Shedden took eight wins, three second places and five third places on his way to the championship title, pipping his team-mate and triple champion Matt Neal.

Shedden will retun to defend his title with the same car and team in 2013.
