Mat Jackson voted best independent driver of 2012

The readers of TouringCarTimes have voted Mat Jackson as the best independent driver of the 2012 British Touring Car Championship season. The Motorbase Performance driver won three races to finish seventh overall and fourth in the independents’ category.

Jackson started his season in the older S2000 Ford Focus and switched to the all-new NGTC specification Ford Focus of Motorbase Performance at Snetterton. The 31-year-old showed promising form in the new car despite limited testing and won the second race at Silverstone in October, just 12 races after its debut.

The votes were extremely close in the top three, with Jackson beating Andrew Jordan and Dave Newsham, both on the very same number of votes, by a mere 0.24%.

Rob Collard was fourth in the rankings, receiving 11% of the votes, with Aron Smith claiming the final spot in the top five on 9%.

Mat Jackson will go head-to-head with the winners of the WTCC and STCC independents’ polls to see who is voted the best independent of all in 2012 and receive our trophy.

We will unveil the next of our six BTCC awards winners in a few days. If you’re an DTM follower, feel free to vote for the DTM Awards.
