Andy Yan wins, Han Han becomes drivers’ champion
Ford’s Andy Yan took the win in the eighth and final round of the 2012 CTCC at the Shanghai International Circuit, whilst Volkswagen’s Han Han became the drivers’ champion after finishing second in the race.
Wang Rue had started on pole in the Shanghai VW 333 Racing Polo ahead of Lo Ka Chun’s Kia K2. In the early stages, G Racing driver Ziang Zhi Qiang made good progress in the Chevrolet Cruze, passing Guo Hua Yang and Han Han for fourth place, before Han was able to surge ahead, repassing Ziang and Lo’s Kia on lap two for third place.
On lap three, Chang’an Ford FRD driver Rainey He hit Lo’s Kia, dropping Rainey to 11th position. Rainey’s Ford team’mate Jiang Tengyi took the lead from Wang Rue on lap seven, but later spun off, dropping to fourth place.
Han Han assumed the lead of the race after Wang retired on lap 11, but was passed two laps later by 2011 champion Andy Yan.
Han Han went on to finish second behind Yan, with Lo Ka Chun completing the podium in the new Kia K2.
Han’s second place was enough to get him ahead of Rainey He in the standings, and the Shanghai VW 333 Racing driver takes the 2012 China Touring Car Championship Super Production title, in addition to the China Rally Championship title he secured last week.
