STR to run one car for Tom Boardman at Shanghai
Special Tuning Racing with slim down to just one car at the next round of the FIA World Touring Car Championship in Shanghai. Tom Boardman will be the only entry for the team, which hopes to be back up to two cars for the Macau finale.
Boardman’s team-mate up until the last round in Japan has been Hong Kong driver Darryl O’Young, who moved across to bamboo-engineering for Suzuka with German driver and GT1 Team Principal Réne Münnich replacing him, as he evaluates entering next year’s WTCC with his own team.
“It was good to work with Réne in Japan, however we always knew this was a one off for
him to evaluate the championship,” said STR Technical Director Gary Robertshaw.
“We have had a lot of discussions with potential drivers for the remaining rounds,” added Robertshaw, “It has just not worked out for China, which is frustrating as we have the car and all of the equipment already in Shanghai. It does make it harder for the team and our regular driver Boardman not having the additional data generated from a two car team to achieve the results we are looking for.”
“We are now focusing on delivering a good result in China, and are continuing talks with drivers for Macau in order to finish the year on a high with two drivers.”
