Andrew Jordan fastest in second practice at Brands Hatch
Andrew Jordan set the fastest time in a drier second free practice session at Brands Hatch, leading the two West Surrey Racing BMWs of Tom Onslow-Cole and Rob Collard.
The session was mostly led by Jordan in his Eurotech Honda and the West Surrey Racing BMW of Tom Onslow-Cole, who swapped P1 throughout the session. Jordan went fastest with just under two minutes to go, with Onslow-Cole ending up second ahead of his WSR team-mate Rob Collard.
Jason Plato was fourth fastest in his Triple Eight MG ahead of the two works Hondas of Matt Neal and Gordon Shedden, who left it late in the session to set their times.
There were two incidents in the session, with Tony Gilham’s Team HARD Vauxhall clashing with Dan Welch’s Proton on the start-finish straight, with Gilham tapping the pit wall and Welch’s car also taking damage and forced to miss the rest of the session. The two drivers differed over the cause of the crash, with Gilham stating that he was “just driving on the dry line getting up to speed, and I don’t know if Dan (Welch) lost it, I don’t know, I just got hit on the side on the straight.”
Welch’s view was quite different:
“I’m still trying to work out where Tony thought I was going to sit on the circuit,” said Welch.”He pulled to the left of the circuit to let us go up the side, then as soon as I did he pulled to the right.”
The red flag was later called as Tony Hughes spun his Speedworks Toyota Avensis off at Paddock Hill bend, which took nearly 10 minutes to recover.
Next up is qualifying at 14:55 BST.
