Bathurst retro livery picture special
With the 50th running of the ‘Great Race’ at Bathurst this weekend a number of the teams are running special retro liveries for the event, we show you what they look like here.
The headline photo is of Craig Lowndes’ and co-driver Warren Luff’s Triple Eight Race Engineering Commodore, which was revealed in spectacular fashion at Mount Panorama on Wednesday. The photo below shows the car being helicoptered to Skyline, from which it was driven to the pits with Craig Lowndes behind the wheel and Bev Brock in the passenger seat. The car’s design reflects the famous Marlboro-backed 1982 Holden HDT Torana which guided Bathurst legend Brock to his sixth victory at Mount Panorama.
Ford Performance Racing are also celebrating 50 years of Bathurst with their three cars displaying retro liveries. The cars of Mark Winterbottom and Steven Richards as well as Will Davison and John McIntyre are rolling back the years featuring liveries from Ford’s famous 1-2 finish in 1978. Allan Moffat, who led Colin Bond to the flag 34 years ago, has given the team his blessing to use the livery.
David Reynolds and Dean Canto have joined in the celebrations at Mount Panorama with a distinctive livery which brings back memories of 1967. The Ford Performance Racing car has switched to the racing green which was used by the Falcon XR GT of Harry Firth and Fred Gibson.
One of the most famous liveries from Bathurst’s illustrious history returns this weekend. James Moffat and Alex Davison will run a Ford Falcon reflecting the iconic Tru Blue colours that Dick Johnson used for arguably his most famous Bathurst campaigns in the early 1980’s. The car will only display these colours on race day with the Dick Johnson Racing team bringing their own decal squad to rewrap the car on Saturday night.
Kelly Racing’s Karl Reindler and Daniel Gaunt will feature a 1960’s inspired design for their Commodore. The pair have switched to a striking white livery featuring green racing stripes to join a large number of cars using retro liveries.
