Chevrolet: “The game plan was changed”

Chevrolet lost the STCC drivers’ title to Volkswagen’s Johan Kristoffersson in the final race of the season at Solvalla where Rickard Rydell and Michel Nykjaer were off pace.
“When Rydell and Nykjaer are almost lapped in a touring car race, I think that they haven’t really got it right in the regulations for performance equalisation,” said Jonas Ahnve, Managing Director of Chevrolet Sweden.

Main rivals Volkswagen got a reduction of 30 kilos ahead of the final, a decision Chevrolet were puzzled by.
“We were almost there, but unfortunately the game plan was changed ahead of the final with the decision to remove 30 kilos of weight from our main competitors’ cars,” said Nicklas Karlsson, Team Manager of Chevrolet Motorsport Sweden.

Rydell finished fourth in both races and ended up six points behind Kristoffersson in the championship despite being 20 points ahead before the final race.
“That gap to Volkswagen has been too big this weekend and we were unable to bridge the speed difference. It would of course have been more fun to win the title, but I can just congratulate Johan to a good job. We have remained in the match all the way to the final despite that we only have two cars in the team and our rivals have twice as many. We can be very proud over taking the team title this year,” said Rydell.

Nykjaer had an even tougher weekend, finishing ninth in the first race and eighth in the second.
“I went to Solvalla with the goal to win the championship, but it was not possible to achieve and third in the championship actually feels okay. I had no grip in the rain today and there was nothing we could do about the Volkswagen cars this weekend,” said Nykjaer.
