Rydell leads Chevrolet 1-2 and takes the points lead

Rickard Rydell has won his second race of the season and has stormed into the lead of the Championship, after Johan Kristoffersson retired from second place gifting the Chevrolet Motorsport Sweden team a 1-2.

The start was accident free this time, with Kristoffersson tucking behind Rydell who got a good start from pole in the Chevrolet Cruze 1.6T. Rydell quickly started to build up a lead, whilst Kristoffersson was under threat from Michel Nykjaer throughout the first part of the race.

Jordi Gené in the second Team Biogas.se Volkswagen Scirocco overtook Patrik Olsson’s IPS Team Biogas for fourth on lap two and managed to hold off the two IPS cars for the remainder of the race.

On lap 13, Johan Kristoffersson went straight on at Kvällposten and out of second place with apparent suspension failure, his first DNF of the 2012 season. This promoted Nykjaer to second place, which also moves the Dane up to second in the standings behind his Chevrolet team-mate

Tomas Engström again started from the back after repairs to his Honda and worked his way up to eventually finish sixth.

Jordi Gené took his second podium result of the season and was best of the Volkswagens after Kristoffersson’s retirement.

Niclas Olsson took his 12th win (from 14) in the Semcon Cup and secures the title one race weekend early in his normally aspirated SEAT León.

Rydell now leads the drivers’ championship for the first time this season on 234 points, with Nykjaer nine points behind and Kristoffersson 20 points down heading to the season finale at Solvalla in two weeks’ time.
