Gary Paffett claims pole at Brands Hatch
Gary Paffett claimed pole position for Mercedes at his home event with a lap time of 41.266s.
It was a Mercedes 1-2 at the end of qualifying with Christian Vietoris lining up second for tomorrow’s race. Bruno Spengler, who took the first win of the year for BMW at the Lausitzring, qualified in third. Audi driver Mike Rockenfeller set the fourth fastest time in the final four-car DTM qualifying session.
There were tight timesheets in each of the three sessions preceeding Q4 with reigning champion Martin Tomczyk being one of the unlucky ones, just missing out on participating in Q4 after setting a time equal to that of fourth placed Vietoris. Filipe Albuquerque will line up behind Tomczyk in sixth and ahead of fellow Audi drivers Adrien Tambay and Mattias Ekström. After topping the timesheets in FP2 Augusto Farfus qualified in ninth for BMW. Jamie Green rounded out the top ten for Mercedes.
The DTM race is due to take place on Sunday at 14:03 UK time, with a warm up to be held at 10:00.
