Martin Tomczyk and BMW starts fastest at Brands Hatch

BMW on top again as the DTM hit Brands Hatch for the first free practice. Reigning champion Martin Tomczyk put the BMW M3 DTM on top of the list, 0.077 seconds ahead of leading Mercedes driver Gary Paffett.

Christian Vietoris was third fastest and lapped the short Indy Circuit in 42.495, just three thousands of a second slower than fellow Mercedes driver Paffett.

Robert Wickens was fourth fastest ahead of Roberto Merhi and last race winner Bruno Spengler.

Augusto Farfus, in seventh, headed the top Audi driver in the form of Mattias Ekström. The Swede lapped Brands in 42.597, close to two tenths from the fastest time of the session, making it just one Audi in the top ten. Second best Audi driver was Edoardo Mortara in eleventh.

Ralf Schumacher and Jamie Green rounded off the top ten. The entire 22-car-field was covered within seven tenth of a second during the session.
