Jason Plato given race three time penalty

Triple Eight’s Jason Plato has been given a two second penalty at Donington Park by the stewards after a controversial final lap pass for second on Honda driver Gordon Shedden in race three.

After starting in 17th place, Plato worked his way through the field during the race, battling Gordon Shedden in the final stages, before executing making contact with the rear of Shedden’s Honda Civic into Goddards, with the Honda running wide and Plato running across the corner to cross the line in second.

“I fully expect Jason to be removed from the results in that or at the very least the positions reversed,” said Shedden to TouringCarTimes before the decision was announced. “That is push to pass in its most obvious form. He hooked up on me at the exit of Coppice and then just shoved me down the back straight and just shoved me off.”

The result remains provisional with a further investigation underway.
