Mat Jackson voted as top independent of 2011

TouringCarTimes readers have voted for Mat Jackson as the best independent driver in the 2011 British Touring Car Championship season. Jackson took four wins this year to finish fourth in the drivers’ Championship and runner-up in the independents’ category.

The 30-year-old driver from Henley-in-Arden lead the overall standings after Snetterton, but three disastrous rounds at the end of the season at Knockhill, Rockingham and Silverstone dropped him down the standings and also out of contention for the independents’ title, which went to James Nash.

Nevertheless, TouringCarTimes readers have voted for Jackson as the best independent driver of the season, taking 1 in 4 votes to beat Dynojet Racing’s Frank Wrathall by just four percent.

Independents’ Champion James Nash was ranked third with 14% of the vote, with another series newcomer, Rob Austin, scoring 10% of the votes to finish fourth, with Andrew Jordan, another race winner this season ranked fifth.

Mat Jackson will go head-to-head with the winners of the WTCC, STCC and DTM independents’ polls to see who is voted the best independent of all in 2011 and receive our trophy.

We will unveil the next of our six BTCC awards winners in a few days. If you’re an STCC follower, feel free to vote for the STCC awards.
