Bruno Spengler confirmed for BMW in DTM 2012
Bruno Spengler has been confirmed to switch from Mercedes to drive for BMW in the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters 2012.
“In recent weeks we have not only been developing the BMW M3 DTM, but have also been working on the driver line-up for our return to the DTM,” says BMW Motorsport Director Jens Marquardt.
Spengler joins Andy Priaulx and Augusto Farfus as the so far confirmed drivers for BMW.
“Outside our current line-up, Bruno Spengler was one of our top choices. Despite his youth he has a lot of DTM experience, which will greatly assist us during our development phase and on race weekends. For this reason, we did not hesitate when the opportunity to sign Bruno up arose. We have yet to decide which of our three teams he will drive for. That will be announced at a later stage,” said Marquardt.
Spengler has driven for Mercedes in the DTM since 2005, finishing runner-up twice [2006 and 2007] in the championship and most recently third overall this season.
With Spengler confirmed, half of the available seats with BMW are filled. The identity of the remaining three are expected to be revealed shortly. Teams Schnitzer, RBM and RMG will run two cars each next season.
