Han Han takes first CTCC win for Volkswagen

Han Han of Shanghai VW 333 Racing won the seventh round of the China Touring Car Championship Super Production Class at the Guangdong International Circuit.

Lo Ka Chun of 778 Autosport took the lead from third on the grid, passing the two VWs of Han Han and Gao Hua Yang at the start, but the two turbocharged Volkswagen’s overhauled Lo’s Kia on lap five, with Han retaking the lead and going on to win the first race for a turbocharged car in the CTCC.

The race was full of incident, with Zhang Han Biao and Leung Tai Ming of TSB Racing crashed into each other at the start, bringing out the safety car for the first four laps of the race, though Zhang was able to continue and finished ninth.

Wang Shao Feng of Kia 778 Autosport & Shanghai VW 333’s Sun Chao collided on lap 12, with both of them ending up in the gravel, with Jason Kang Jie Wai’s Kia also retiring on the same lap with a mechanical failure.

Chang’an Ford FRD’s Rainey He also retired on lap 16 in the Ford Focus, with the top placed Ford being Andy Yan’s car in fifth.

The next round of the CTCC will be at the Tianma Circuit in Shanghai, where the Championship will support the first Chinese round of the FIA World Touring Car Championship.
