Video: Volvo bids farewell to 5-cylinder engine

The STCC final on the 24th of September marked the final ever STCC race for Volvo and the final ever race for the five-cylinder Volvo racing engine. The Swedish manufacturer celebrates its 16 years of racing with a new video.

The first ever race for Volvo with the 5 cylinder engine took place at Thruxton in England on the 4th of April 1994 and the final ever at Mantorp Park in Sweden just over two weeks ago.

Volvo has since 1994 racked up 110 victories with the engine in Sweden, England, Australia and France, with models such as 850, S40, S60 and C30.

The Swedish manufacturer left STCC after the 2011 season for the silhouette-based TTA championship next year where Volvo will field four cars. One driver has been revealed so far in form of triple STCC champion Fredrik Ekblom.

The new video from Volvo features seven minutes of five-cylinder howl, behind the scenes, new information on the engine specification, previous seasons and a glimpse of 2012.
