Thorney Motorsport unveil Vauxhall Insignia BTCC car
Milton Keynes based team Thorney Motorsport have unveiled their Vauxhall Insignia built to the new Next Generation Touring Car regulations, which is expected to make its championship debut at the Silverstone finale next weekend.
Team Principal John Thorne unveiled the car at the team’s headquarters this afternoon, which will become the sixth NGTC car on the grid at Silverstone assuming a successful text next week at Mallory Park, with Thorne himself at the wheel.
The car will run with the same Swindon Racing Engines 2.0 litre turbocharged unit which has been run by Triple Eight and Eurotech Racing so far this season as well as in the cars of fellow NGTC teams Speedworks Motorsport and Welch Automotive.
The use of the Swindon unit is a one-off, with the team planning to run an in-house developed 2.0 litre turbocharged Vauxhall engine next year, when they plan to enter two cars for their first full season in the BTCC.
Thorney Motorsport prepared a Vauxhall Astra VXR for Joseph Girling in the Dunlop Production Touring Car Trophy this year, with Girling going on to finish fifth in the championship.
