Plato’s Brands Hatch performance sets up close finale

With two wins at the track which Jason Plato calls his best circuit, Jason Plato has set up an exciting finale just five points down on his arch-rival Matt Neal going to Silverstone where the reigning champion is praying for rain.

Jason Plato set the best lap for a normally aspirated car in qualifying to secure his fourth pole position of the season, and went on to take victory in races one and two relatively unthreatened with his team-mate MacDowall behind him for most of race one, and former RML team-mate Mat Jackson in race two.

“We’ve got the car set-up just perfectly,” said Plato.

“It was unbeatable out there today, thanks in no small part to the fine-tuning we did in free practice. It was amazing in qualifying, amazing during the races.”

Five drivers go in the championship finale at Silverstone in two weeks with a mathematical chance of winning the championship, with Mat Jackson and James Nash certainly with the higher odds being over 36 points adrift.

In all likelihood it’s a three horse race between Plato and the two Hondas of Matt Neal and Gordon Shedden at the Silverstone National circuit, one Plato’s regularly pointed out as a track he suspects won’t suit the normally aspirated Cruze.

“It’s going to be a tough challenge,” said Plato.

“The high speed nature of Silverstone will allow the turbo cars to run at full throttle, which will make things a little difficult for us, but if it rains then anything could happen.”
