Michel Nykjær: “We are going to race clean”

Michel Nykjær created controversy in the previous STCC round as he was penalized for hindering team mate Rickard Rydell’s title rival Fredrik Ekblom at the start. The Dane is back for the STCC finale, but says that the racing is going to be clean.

“The championship battle is tough. Fredrik Ekblom gets further help as his team fields four cars, but we are going to race clean and then see what happens in the races,” said Nykjær.

Nykjær had a strong first STCC weekend for Chevrolet, notching up fifth on the grid and fourth in the first race. The Dane is aiming to take one step further up at Mantorp Park.

“It was here that I drove my very first DTC race and I think I was fifth in qualifying, the first time that I even sat in a DTC car. So it is going to be nice to be back here and I hope that I can be in the top and even find a tenth or two,” said Nykjær.

The three Chevrolet Cruzes of Nykjær, Rydell and Viktor Hallrup will face stiff opposition from the four Volkswagen Sciroccos of Ekblom, Patrik Olsson, Johan Kristoffersson and Thed Björk.

“The track has got a long, long straight. And if you compare the Cruze and the Scirocco, it is going to be tough for us as their turbos perform well on the long straight. But Rydell tested here recently and he was faster compared to the spring race at Mantorp,” said Nykjær.
