Triple Eight to build NGTC cars for 2012

Triple Eight Race Engineering today announced that they are going to build and race NGTC specification cars in the British Touring Car Championship 2012.
“It is fairly obvious now that the NGTC regulations are the future of the British Touring Car Championship,” said Ian Harrison, Triple Eight Chairman.

The team has run the older S2000 specification Vauxhall Vectra, developed for the 2007 season with NGTC engines in the BTCC this season for James Nash, Tony Gilham and Áron Smith.

“It’s quite clear too that the future has already arrived, perhaps a bit sooner than we expected. While our complete plans have yet to be finalised, we’re announcing the switch from S2000 to NGTC now as a clear sign of our support of the BTCC going forward and where we have competed successfully since 1997,” said Harrison.

The team clinched their first victory of the season with James Nash at Rockingham last weekend, right ahead of an NGTC specification Audi A4.

“The NGTC cars look the part and will undoubtedly become more reliable and cost effective over time giving the BTCC a solid technical platform from which to grow the on track aspect of the series,” said Harrison.

The team has not yet announced which car they are going to build for next season.
