Shedden wins race two, retakes championship lead
Gordon Shedden drove from sixth to first to storm back into the lead of the championship, retaking it from team-mate Matt Neal who took the final spot on the podium, the two separated by Frank Wrathall’s Toyota.
Plato again got away well at the start, but was more closely matched by Tech-Speed Chevrolet driver Paul O’Neill, whilst the rear-wheel drive BMW 320si of Nick Foster stormed up from sixth to third before Deene, but then lost ground through the corner falling back to sixth.
An unballasted Shedden was now up to third, and overtook the purple Chevrolet Cruze of Paul O’Neill on lap two, before passing Jason Plato on lap four to take the lead.
At this point, Dynojet Racing Frank Wrathall’s charge came on, passing O’Neill for third and Jason Plato two laps later for second. Wrathall remained in contact with Shedden for the rest of the race, but was unable to pass the Honda Civic, giving the Scotsman his fifth win of the season.
Matt Neal worked his way up past O’Neill on lap seven, and then took Jason Plato without incident on lap 14 to claim the final spot on the podium.
Shedden’s win puts him back in the lead of the championship on 204 points, with Neal 5 points behind and Plato 31 points adrift.
Rob Austin started from the back of the grid after being unable to make it out on the form up lap and drove through the order for the second consecutive race to finish in ninth place, with Rob Collard making similar progress to finish 10th.
The draw for the race two grid was 10, which means Collard will start from pole position for the final race of the day at 16:50 BST.
