Rob Austin on top in second practice session

Rob Austin was fastest in the second practice session at Rockingham by almost half a second over Chevrolet’s Jason Plato, following on from fellow NGTC driver Frank Wrathall being quickest in the first session.

After 15 minutes into the session, Honda’s Gordon Shedden had gone quickest over Triple Eight’s James Nash, but almost immediately Rob Austin bettered the Scotsman’s time with a lap of 1:24.109, before improving again to be the only driver of the day to break the 1:24 barrier with a lap of 1:23.793.

That time wasn’t beaten for the rest of the session, with only Jason Plato able to get within half a second of the Next Generation Touring Car (NGTC) specification Audi A4 of Austin.

James Nash ended up third for Triple Eight, with Gordon Shedden fourth.

Lea Wood missed the session in his Honda Integra after engine problems, whilst Andrew Jordan stopped out on circuit with either a gearbox or driveshaft problem according to Team Principal Mike Jordan.

Arena’s Tom Chilton also finished the session early, with his Ford Focus pushed behind the garage after completing only nine laps and setting the 15th fastest time.
