Johan Stureson leaves STCC
Johan Stureson and IPS Motorsport have announced that they are going to leave the Scandinavian Touring Car Championship after this season.
“We are going to sell the car after this season. We are not going to do STCC next year,” said Stureson to nsk.se.
Stureson has been racing in the STCC since 2003 and says that it is time for something new.
“We have driven STCC as an amateur team in eight seasons. I am starting to become a faithful old servant. But sometime you have to do something else and if you have done something for eight years, it feels like a good opportunity to end it. STCC is going to be worse next year and that is why it does not feel relevant to continue,” said Stureson.
While Stureson has been negotiating with the new SRL by TTA series for 2012, he has not taken a decision yet.
“We are waiting so far. But we might as well sell the car so we don’t get stuck in anything. TTA is a complete solution with car and partnership, it is an interesting idea,” said Stureson.
Stureson is currently fourth in the STCC drivers championship and the BMW driver is aiming to clinch third.
“Third is the overall goal, but I need a podium at Knutstorp to get enough points. The conditions are good, the track suits the BMW,” said Stureson.
