NGTC cars too fast according to top drivers
Leading drivers of the British Touring Car Championship has called for the NGTC specification cars to be pegged back after the Knockhill qualifying session where Frank Wrathall, NGTC Toyota, qualified third and Rob Austin, NGTC Audi, qualified fourth.
“We’ve been beaten by the rules. They’re equalising teams and cars, which I didn’t think was supposed to happen,” said Gordon Shedden to Autosport.
The NGTC cars has not been hit by the previous boost reductions and are running at 1.8 bar compared to the 1.6 and 1.5 bar for the S2000 cars with NGTC engines.
Not only has the NGTC cars got more power, the regulations allow bigger tyres and bigger brakes.
“The NGTC cars have got bigger tyres, bigger brakes and are quicker in a straight line so I don’t know how I’m going to pass them. I’m sure Alan [Gow] is looking at everything all the time, but it’s getting to crunch time now,” said Shedden, who qualified fifth yesterday.
Rob Austin, whose best finish so far is 10th, says that the improvement of the NGTC cars should not come as a surprise in an interview with Autosport.
“I don’t think it should be a surprise – we’ve been improving round by round. We’re running the same boost as we ran at Brands and our car is heavier. They promised parity. We haven’t had it so far and we haven’t kicked up a fuss. They’ve made it clear NGTC is the future,” said Austin.
