Jason Watt announces retirement from top level racing
Jason Watt has announced that the STCC races at Jyllandsringen this weekend is going to be his last on top level in Denmark.
“This is going to be my last race on Danish soil at this level. I haven’t got anything planned for next year and this is my good bye to Jyllandsringen and the Danish spectators. It feels a bit sad,” said Watt to the official championship site.
Watt was on his way to Formula One at the end of the nineties, driving F3000 for Super Nova in 1999, when he got involved in a motorcycle accident which left him paralysed from the chest down.
The Dane returned to racing a few years later and secured the Danish Touring Car Championship title in 2002. Watt is racing a SEAT León with his own team this year, taking part in selected STCC races.
Watt, who won the STCC season opener at Jyllandsringen in April, qualified 11th for the first race today. The SEAT driver has planned to take part in the coming STCC races at Knutstorp as his final for this season.
