Rustad beats Turkington to pole in Denmark

Tommy Rustad beat Colin Turkington in a last minute gasp during the qualifying session at Jyllandsringen in Denmark.
“I am really pleased, this is my third out of four poles at this track,” said Rustad to TouringCarTimes.

A rain shower just before Q2 made the conditions tricky and pole changed between Rustad and Turkington as many times as they past the finishing line for the last three minutes.
“At first I thought we had chosen the wrong tyres, it was really slippery. But I persevered and the car really came alive for the last three laps,” said Turkington.

Championship leader Fredrik Ekblom claimed third on the grid, but over one second behind Rustad. Casper Elgaard, who was fastest in practice and Q1, claimed fourth.

Johan Stureson was second best BMW driver in fifth, a massive four seconds slower than Rustad. Martin Öhlin claimed sixth ahead of Johan Kristoffersson and Patrik Olsson.

Gabriele Tarquini was first man outside Q2, missing it by just 0.051 seconds. Richard Göransson was a disappointed tenth on the grid.
“We just had bad luck with the timing, I have to try and give everyone a good show in the first race tomorrow,” said Göransson.

Another front runner to miss out on the changing weather conditions was Rickard Rydell in 12th, behind Jason Watt and just ahead Mattias Andersson. Fabrizio Giovanardi claimed 13th in the grid after having trouble with a misfiring engine.
