Franz Engstler starts from pole for race two

Liqui-Moly Team Engstler driver Franz Engstler will start from pole position in the reversed grid race two, with Tiago Monteiro’s SUNRED León 1.6T alongside.

The German driver pipped Bamboo Engineering driver Darryl O’Young in the final moments of the first qualifying session on Saturday for the all important 10th position, with the top 10 fastest drivers reversed for the race two grid.

Engstler was involved in contact with both Norbert Michelisz and Aleksei Dudukalo in race one, for which all three drivers are under investigation. Engstler’s contact with Michelisz saw the Hungarian drop down the order and out of the independents’ points positions, with Engstler spun out himself on the final lap in an incident with the SUNRED León of Dudukalo.

Tiago Monteiro, who retired to the pits after one lap after contact on the first lap will start alongside Engstler on the front row.

Zengö Motorsport’s Norbert Michelisz starts third on the grid for the standing start race, with Yokohama Independents’ Trophy rival Michel Nykjaer alongside.

After finishing fifth in race one, Alain Menu will be the best positioned Chevrolet driver in race two, and will be aiming to claim back some points on Yvan Muller and Rob Huff, starting fifth on the grid for race two.

Championship leader Rob Huff starts seventh, with close title rival Yvan Muller starting ninth.
