Darryl O’Young also hoping for a dry race

Bamboo Engineering’s Darryl O’Young is hoping the rain stays away for today’s race, as the independent Chevrolet driver was struggling to get a good wet set-up on his Cruze in free practice.

The Bamboo Engineering driver was 18th fastest in both of the free practice sessions, but in the drying conditions in qualifying faired much better, putting the car sixth on the grid for race one and will start seventh with the reversed grid for race two.

“We’re just struggling with traction in the practice, we couldn’t figure out what it was, something was just causing massive oversteer for me in the rain”, said O’Young to TouringCarTimes.

O’Young is the second highest placed Yokohama Independents’ Trophy driver for race one, starting one place behind Colin Turkington, who isn’t in contention for the title on account of this being his first and only scheduled race of the season.

“It’s a shame not to get that extra point (for independents’ pole), because every point counts for the championship. Turkington just pipped us at the end there.”

“Maybe timing wise if we waited one lap later, but we only had one run so didn’t want to gamble too much,” said the Hong Kong driver.
