Bertolini taking it a weekend at a time

Despite his double win at Donington, Andrea Bertolini isn’t thinking about the overall championship, yet. The multiple FIA GT Champion now lies third in the International Superstars Series standings, just four points behind leader Luigi Ferrara, in what is his first season of racing in the series.

“It is difficult to think about the championship now,” the 37-year-old told TouringCarTimes. “We will look to do the maximum performance every weekend, and then at the last weekend we will see and then think about the championship, but not now.

“Now we have Misano, my home race, but with 60 kilogrammes of ballast. But honestly I am really happy to race with 60 kilos, because you only have the success ballast when you win. So in Misano we will try to do the maximum performance we can.”

Bertolini led both races at Donington from virtually lights-to-flag to take his second and third wins of the Superstars season, after victory in race one at Valencia in early May.

“I’m really happy, especially here because I like Donington a lot, but the good point was that Maserati finished one-three, which is a really good result for Maserati and all of the people working on this project.

“For me this is a new category and a sprint race. But the people, the atmosphere is really nice and the racing is very close, but today especially. In race two I was very lucky because Johnny (Herbert) was really quick and probably would have been the winner, but Alberto…Anyway, we are here!”
