Jason Plato targeting first pole of the season at Oulton Park
Silverline Chevrolet driver Jason Plato is looking to end Honda’s unbroken run of pole positions this weekend thanks to the latest round of technical changes for the Super 2000 teams.
The reigning British Touring Car Champion’s RML-run Chevrolet Cruze will be 25kg lighter that it’s ever been previously, after series organising body TOCA reviewed the performance of the field after the last round at Thruxton.
A good result for Oxford-driver Jason Plato this weekend will break him back into the top five of the championship, after an eventful opening three race weekends where he’s taken three race victories, but also suffered two very heavy crashes.
“The Silverline Chevrolet Cruze has the perfect chassis for the demanding and undulating Cheshire circuit. Key to success this weekend is qualifying,” said Plato.
“One thing is for sure I should be able to challenge for pole position as I’m not carrying success ballast and TOCA has given us a 25kg weight break. My Chevrolet Cruze will be 70kgs lighter than Matt Neal’s car in Qualifying so it will be interesting to see how things pan out at the weekend.”
“Engine differences aside we are certainly having a competitive and exciting season which clearly the ITV audience agrees with. People watch because it’s an incredibly action-packed championship so we all need to ensure this trend continues by providing challenging and skilful racing” concludes Plato, following figures revealed by the BTCC showing a very strong increase in viewing figures compared to last year.
