ATCS heads to Sepang for its second round

Rounds 3 and 4 of the Asian Touring Car Series (ATCS) will be held at the Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia this weekend.

At last month’s opening round of the 2011 ATCS at the Guangdong International Circuit in China, the Series saw the return of Taiwanese touring car regular Chen Jun
San and his Team AAI/Buddy Club. The team were right at the front after a three-year hiatus with an ex-Team Dynamics BTCC Honda Civic.

Chen was immediately on the pace claiming the season’s first pole position ahead of some of Asia’s most recognised touring car drivers. He then went on to drive a perfect race to claim the Round win ahead of Hideharu Kuroki of Team IMSP and Kenneth Lau of JAS Motorsport.

Paul Poon won race two outright in his China Dragon Racing Chevrolet Lacetti, and leads the points standings in the HTCC (Hong Kong Touring Car Championship), with the ATCS and HTCC sharing events for the opening few rounds of the championship.

In the ATCS points standings, Chen Jun San (Team AAI Honda Civic) and Kenneth Lau (JAS Motorsport Honda Accord) share the championship lead with 25 points each, after Chen suffered with broken steering in race two in China.

The HTCC and ATCS drivers will now take to the circuit this weekend which hosts the Malaysian Formula 1 Grand Prix, the Sepang Circuit, where both will be fighting to move into the championship lead.
