Volkswagen team unsure on over-boost cause
Volkswagen Team Biogas.se driver Patrik Olsson was excluded from qualifying ahead of the STCC race at Mantorp Park due to too high turbo boost. The team has not yet been able to determine the cause of the over-boost.
“We have analyzed the data but we are not sure of the exact cause,” said Team Principal Tommy Kristoffersson to TouringCarTimes.
Team mate Ekblom claimed pole position and had no problem with the turbo pressure in the after-qualifying control.
“Both our cars are loaded with the same mapping program for the engine, but the STCC technicians got different maximum turbo pressure values when checking our cars after qualifying. The difference is marginal, but the maximum value has to be followed and we do of course accept the decision of the stewards,” said Kristoffersson.
The CNG powered Volkswagen engines has got the maximum turbo pressure set at 2.05 bar and the over-boost was within the previous allowed value [changed last season] of 2.10 bar.
Olsson is going to start 19th tomorrow and the team is hoping for the Swede to be able to make his way to top eight.
“It is always sad to be excluded in an after-qualifying or race control. But as the STCC is so tough this year, you have to be at the very limit on everything in order to be in the top. We cannot afford to have any safety margins. We are hoping for Patrik to make it in top top eight in the first race and be in it for the reversed grid to race two,” said Kristoffersson.
