Aaron Povoledo takes first win for Volvo at Utah
Aaron Povoledo has taken K-PAX Racing’s first win in the Touring Class at Miller Motorsports Park in Utah with their new Volvo C30.
The qualifying session for the third race meeting of the year was bizarrely called off due to snow on Friday, with the grid being decided in championship order a result, which gave Compass360 Racing’s Lawson Aschenbach pole position in his Honda Civic Si.
There was trouble at the start as two of the GT cars stalled on the grid, the resulting collision causing deployment of the safety car.
At the restart, Ronald Zitsa led in his Zotz Racing Volkswagen Jetta ahead of the two K-PAX Volvos of Robb Holland and Aaron Povoledo.
Povoledo quickly moved past his team-mate and closed down on Zitsa, eventually passing the VW on lap 18 and going on to build a two second lead to take the chequered flag and Volvo’s first win in Touring.
Zitsa held on on second, fighting off the Brimtek Motorspots VW Golf of Tristan Herbert in the closing stages.
C360R’s Lawson Aschenbach finished in fourth place, with Eric Meyer’s XOWii Racing Mazda RX-8 fifth.
