Gordon Shedden takes pole at Thruxton

Despite the new restriction on the turbocharged cars, Shedden has swept to pole position, finding an extra 1.8s from free practice. Andrew Jordan was closest to the Honda, with Matt Neal third.

The Hondas went out and took the top two positions with their first flying laps, the first cars to break under 1:18, but Andrew Jordan set a great lap in the Eurotech Racing Vauxhall Vectra to take provisional pole with a lap of 1:17.066.

The lap would keep him at the top of the timesheet until half way through the session, when Shedden topped the Vauxhall with a lap of 1:17.004.

Tom Chilton, who had been fastest in the first practice session will line-up fourth on the grid, but was seven-tenths of a second down on the top trio, with Jason Plato the top S2000 car in fifth, nine-tenths down.

Tom Onslow-Cole took AmD Milltek Racing’s best qualifying result ever with sixth in the Volkswagen Golf, with Jeff Smith seventh on the grid in the second of the Eurotech Vauxhalls.

Mat Jackson, Tom Boardman and points leader James Nash rounded out the top ten.
