Asian Touring Car Series starts at Guangdong
This weekend the first round of the 2011 Asian Touring Car Series gets underway at the recently homologated Guangdong International Circuit in China, located in the Guangzhou province.
The 2011 ATCS is set to race at five venues making a total of 10 championship rounds, before the final event of the season, an invitational race at the Macau GP in November along with the WTCC.
The season is set to be the best in years, with very strong interest from new teams and drivers and close co-operation with the HKAA Hong Kong Touring Car Championship (HKTCC) in the first three of the five events.
The grid for the first race sees a grid predominantly composed of a variety of Honda racing cars, with the HKTCC China Dragon Chevrolet Lacettis also taking part.
After this weekend’s races, the series will then continue with four races in Sepang on 29th May and 3rd July, all of which will be run alongside the Super Saloon class of Hong Kong Touring Car Championship.
The ATCS will continue on to Indonesia’s Sentul International Circuit, with the season ending at a yet to be disclosed event in October, a replacement round for the Korean International Circuit which had been scheduled for May.
The first round of the ATCS sees drivers from Hong Kong, Taiwan, Macau and Japan all taking part.
Team AAI will enter an ex-Team Dynamics Honda Civic FN2 for Chen Jun San and a JAS prepared Honda Accord for Morris Chen Han Chen.
Team IMSP will enter Man Ting Yu, Danny Stacy Chau, Cheung Chi Sing and Danny Chau Kwok San in the championship.
Hideharu Kuroki may enter a Honda Integra and Wong Kwai Wah may enter an ex-Fleper Motorsports Honda Accord.
