Liam Griffin takes his first point after repair job

Liam Griffin was ecstatic to pick up his first BTCC points in the same race where his team-mate took the victory, in a great result for Motorbase Performance, after extensive repairs were required to his Ford Focus ST after race two.

Griffin’s car was caught up in the tangle with Gordon Shedden and Jason Plato in race two, and whilst RML pulled off the greatest of all repair jobs to get Plato’s car back out for race three, Motorbase’s effort to get Griffin back out was relatively unnoticed.

“It was amazing to get out. They had the welder out, the sledgehammer and everything, but it was straight and it felt like you’d have never have known anything had happened to it.” said Griffin to TouringCarTimes.

Griffin popped into the points after a last lap incident took out the Arena Motorsport Ford Focus of Andy Neate and the Triple Eight Vauxhall of Tony Gilham, escalating Griffin to ninth place.

The 37-year-old now lies 15th in the overall standings with his two points from Donington Park, and adds to Motorbase Performance’s tally, keeping them fourth in the team’s championship and second in the independent team’s trophy.
