Winrow enjoys test with Special Tuning Racing

2010 Trofeo Abarth 500 GB champion Ben Winrow enjoyed his first touring car test last week with Special Tuning Racing at Donington Park, as the team ran their new NGTC-specification engine in force for the first time.

Tom Boardman and Ben Winrow set some laps in the team’s SEAT León, now fitted with a new Next Generation Touring Car (NGTC) specification engine from Lehmann in Germany, which had a shakedown run two weeks earlier at Rockingham.

Winrow told TouringCarTimes it was a teaser exercise, with the 2008 Renault Clio Cup champion getting the opportunity to try out a touring car for the first time and said “it was all he hoped it would be”.

Winrow was looking at a potential half season with Special Tuning Racing, but it now looks as though that won’t be possible.

Special Tuning Racing are still to confirm any other drivers apart from Tom Boardman despite now being in possession of four Super 2000 specification Leóns.

The team has indicated to TouringCarTimes recently it will likely be running just two or three cars in the 2011 British Touring Car Championship. The team will be testing at Silverstone on Friday, missing the larger test scheduled on Wednesday at Brands Hatch.
