Barth still working on 2011 deal

Fredy Barth hasn’t finalised his deal with SUNRED for this season yet, as the Swiss driver is still putting together the budget for his sophomore campaign.

Barth’s deal to race in the WTCC last year was the last deal to be put together. The 31-year old Swiss driver was an early leader in the new rookie challenge category, which eventually went to his former SEAT Eurocup rival Norbert Michelisz.

Speaking to Motorsport-Total, Barth confirmed his participation in the 2011 FIA World Touring Car Championship is dependent “upon many factors”.

“Primarily, it comes to the financing” said Barth.

“A season in the Touring Car Championship in a private team costs about 700,000 euros”.

Barth’s primary backer last year was SEAT Switzerland.

SUNRED team boss Joán Orus has already stated he’d like to run a six car team this season, starting with the TDI engine with Barth and Michel Nykjaer hopefully taking part in their second season in the team alongside veterans Gabriele Tarquini & Tiago Monteiro.
