Huff fastest as WTCC finale begins in Macau
Rob Huff posted the fastest lap time in the first test session for the FIA World Touring Car Championship finale at Macau. The Chevrolet-driver lapped the legendary street track in 2:33.120, three tenths faster than his team mate Alain Menu.
Andy Priaulx was best of the BMW’s in third, 0.886 seconds behind Huff. Tom Coronel was the last driver to get within one second of the fastest lap, just four thousands of a second from a complete second behind.
Yvan Muller, who is unbeatable in the points for the title this year, was fifth fastest ahead of Tiago Monteiro and Augusto Farfus Jr.
Gabriele Tarquini, doing his last race as reigning champion, was eigth fastest ahead of Norbert Michelisz and Macau-expert André Couto.
The session was stopped twice. The first red flag came after just one lap in the session when Chan Kin Man and Andrei Romanov crashed in to the wall at the Hospital Bend.
Masaki Kano was the next victim of the Macau barriers with ten minutes to go of the session, clipping the barriers at the exit of the R-bend.
