Chevrolet aiming for strong points haul
The Chevrolet WTCC team are aiming to take as many points as possible from Japan, conceding that the BMW Team RBM cars will be tough to beat this weekend.
Chevrolet hold the lead in both the drivers and constructors championships going into the two race meetings at Japan, and the drivers now are turning their hopes to rain tomorrow, fearing the circuit will wear down the Cruze’s front tyres rapidly in the race, should we see the first ever dry WTCC race in Japan.
“For sure, the gaps are wider than expected but we need to see how things will evolve tomorrow,” said Rob Huff, starting third.
“Especially if it rains which it seems is going to happen any minute. It’s already a little bit damp out there, typical British weather, so feel like at home!”
Alain Menu and Yvan Muller will start from row four, which should place them well for race two with the reverse grid should the first race be uneventful, but Menu fears the tyres are the biggest factor:
“This track is very tough for the front tyres, this will certainly be the key factor tomorrow, especially if it is dry and towards the end of the races, but we can certainly aim to some heavy points”.
Chevrolet has given provisional notice of their intention to appeal against the FIA’s interpretation of the regulations, which has seen a weight reduction for the BMW’s which have now fitted a sequential shift gearbox.
