Brazil ready to launch touring car series
Brazil is set to launch a brand new touring car championship in 2011, based on the regulations of the successful Argentinean TC2000 Championship.
Argentine motorsport magazine Corsa reports that agreements are in place for a series to launch in 2011, which will also see the top 15 competitors from each countries championship go head to head for the last event of the season.
Vicar will be the company behind the promotion of the series, and has the support of the Confederación Brasileña del Automovilismo (Brazilian Motorsport Federation) to run the series.
The TC2000 technical regulations seem to be the most likely specification of cars to be used, though a lower cost spec could also be used for the series inaugural season.
The championship is likely to be called Campeonato Brasileño de Marcas (Brazilian Manufactuers Championship) after a successful series that took place during the 70’s and 80’s.
Brazil already has a top level ‘tin top’ series in the Brazilian Stock Car Championship. Though the cars used to resemble US style stock cars, over recent years they’ve progressed more to resemble their road going counterparts, and the series is closer to a road circuit based silhouette series.
The new Brazilian championship now awaits the commitment of some car manufacturers before it can in fact become a reality.
