Opel confirms DTM evaluation
Opel has confirmed that they are considering a return to the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters. The German manufacturer last took part in the series in 2005. A statement from Opel read that the manufacturer is “constantly working on further strengthening of the brand and there exists interest in developing a new motorsports strategy.”
A spokesman from Opel confirmed to Autosport that DTM is one of the alternatives.
RML, which runs the WTCC program for Chevrolet, and Williams F1 has been suggested as teams up for the job to develop and run the cars as Opel does not have the capacity to build the cars in house.
The DTM is set to introduce new regulations for 2012, so if Opel is going to be ready in time, a decision needs to be taken before the end of the year.
