Touring car stars to face Silverstone endurance test
Several drivers from the BTCC and WTCC past and present will head to Silverstone this weekend to take part in the Britcar 24 hour sports car race.
The annual event (which was shortened to 500 miles in 2009) features a field of GT cars and production race cars, and several stars from the British and World Touring Car championships will be racing this weekend.
In the GT2 class, Chevrolet WTCC driver Rob Huff will join former BTCC racers Kelvin Burt and Phil Bennett in an Aquila CR1, run by Wessex Vehicle, whilst WSR’s Andy Neate will race for Rollcentre Racing in a Mosler alongside Stephen Quick and team owner Martin Short.
Also in GT2, former BTCC driver Darren Dowling, who raced for BTC Racing in a Lexus, will race a TVR Sagaris for GTF.
In the GT3 category, Paul O’Neill has been confirmed as a last minute entry for Track Torque Racing in a Chevron GT3. Paul will join Nick Jarvis, Rob Wilson & Neil Primrose, better known as the drummer for indie group Travis.
WTCC driver and former DTC champion Michel Nykjaer will drive a JetAlliance Porsche 997 in the class, along with Lukas Lichtner-Hoyer, Martin Rich, Vitus Eckert & Marco Seefried.
In GT4, Team Eurotech owner and former driver Mike Jordan will race for Intersport in a BMW M3 E46, whilst former BTCC driver and Ginetta G40 support series driver Carl Breeze will race a SEAT Leon Supercopa for Strategic Racing.
Finally, in the production class, John George will be the only driver sticking to his regular ride, as he will race a Honda Integra for Mardi Gras Motorsports, who oversaw his entry in his earlier years in the BTCC.
In total, there are 60 cars on the entry list for this years Britcar 24 Hour race at Silverstone, which promises to be a spectacular event.
