Björk, Rustad, Dahlgren and Watt ready for Gothenburg
Four drivers from the Swedish and Danish Touring Car Championship attended the official press conference ahead of the race in Gothenburg tomorrow. STCC championship leader Robert Dahlgren is hoping for to score his first win in the home town of Volvo.
“I am aiming for the top, we have a good car that works really well despite the maximum ballast weight,” said Dahlgren.
Dahlgren has been on pole all years since STCC started racing there, 2008, but has not materialized it yet in to a win. This year he expects even tougher resistance.
“It is going to be extra hard this year with the Danes. You need a faultless qualifying and a faultless race to be able to win,” said Dahlgren.
His team mate and reigning champion Tommy Rustad won a race here last year and his hoping to make up for his dreadful season start.
“It certainly has been a tough start, but we should be competitive this weekend and I am looking forward to it,” said Rustad.
Danish SEAT racer Jason Watt is doing his first race ever at the street track of Gothenburg and is expecting hard work.
“It is going to be tough, the Danes are the underdogs of the weekend as we have no experience of the track compared to the Swedes who has raced here for two years,” said Watt.
But street circuits is something Watt likes and remembers the days when he was racing Formula 3000 in Monaco.
“I had never driven Monaco before when I claimed pole in 1997, I think it was. So I really like street tracks and I will of course fight hard tomorrow,” said Watt.
Last year’s runner up, Thed Björk, is hoping to continue the strong trend of Flash Engineering this weekend. The team scored two podium finishes, including one win, two weeks ago at Karlskoga and Björk is confident of the speed.
“We know we have cars that are among the absolute fastest cars in the field. My season start has been anything but easy, but I know that we have the capacity to win here this weekend,” said Björk.
